Tucson's retirement communities are generally "age restricted" communities offering a wide range of community settings, activities and life styles.  Most provide the residents a selection of activites that include golf, swimming, tennis, work shops & hobby rooms.  Social activities are plentifull and create the opportunity to meet your neighbors and establish relationships.

The "Home Owners Association" - HOA - in each community provides oversight and policies for the minimum age of property owners, facilities available for community activities and enforcement of all Covenents, Conditions & Restrictions - CCR's - for the community.

9 - Academy Village

The Academy Village community is a supportive group of men and women who have discovered a new way of aging. On any given day, you may find a presentation on local geology, a yoga class, a first-rate concert, an art group exploring watercolors, a guest lecturer speaking on music theory, or a resident leading a discussion on astronomy.  If you are looking for a place devoted to life-long learning, the Academy Village is the answer.

The Arizona Senior Academy is in the heart of The Village, the hub around which Village life revolves.  The Academy is a non-profit organization devoted to life-long learning, thinking, and doing.  It is a source of educational and cultural programs that complement the health and wellness programs, services, and social events provided by the Village homeowner’s association.  Together, these activities and services support a stimulating and fulfilling retirement.  All residents of the community are members of the Academy.  Members also include non-residents from Tucson and around the country.

The Academy was founded by Dr. Henry Koffler, President Emeritus of the University of Arizona.   Dr. Koffler’s mission was two-fold: To create a community whose residents would have easy access to life-long learning and also have the opportunity to give back to the larger community.

Throughout the year, Academy members are provided with programs, seminars, and concerts.  Members also enjoy 5 and 10-week courses, mini-courses, and panel discussions.   During 2006 alone, the Academy sponsored well over 100 such events.

Community service is a major interest among members of the Academy.  Academy members have, among other things, made school presentations, mentored students, served as Science Fair judges, and sponsored aspiring young musicians.

The Academy Village, where you... Live.  And Learn.
