Accenture Match Play Championship - February 18 to 24

The Accenture Match Play Championship returns for the second year on February 18 thru 24 on the South Course of the Gallery Golf Club. This will be the last year on the South Course before moving to the nearby new Jack Nicklaus designed course in 2009.  The championship brings the top 64 golfers - based on rankings on February 11, 2008 - in the world to Tucson. An event that may soon put Tucson and the Community of Dove Mountain on the golf destination map for all players - not just the pros - from around the world.

An early withdrawal from the event is Ernie Els, the number 5 player in the world, who recently announced he would not play this year.  Some suggest his lack of success in the match play event made his travel schedule just a bit more difficult.

Puttin on the Ritz - Ritz Carlton that is !

Well, if are from Tucson, but haven't heard by now that the Ritz Carlton is coming to Dove Mountain - you have been in the sun way to long.  The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club at Dove Mountain is indicated to be an 850 Acre community providing a 250 room resort hotel along with 324 luxury homes and 27 holes of golf created by Jack Nicklaus.

The 50,000 sq ft clubhouse for the Ritz Carlton Golf Club - Dove Mountain is scheduled for completion in late 2008.  It is hoped this project will establish Dove Mountain as one on the Southwest's exclusive communities and golf destinations.

Based on published information, the new match play course being designed by Jack Nicklaus will have sets of parallel fairways to make watching the golf a lot easier.  No more trouping across the desert to get to other holes. As conceptual rendering of the new clubhouse was published in Tucson Lifestyle - golf guide - 2008 edition is below
