Agua Caliente Is A Peaceful Oasis In The Desert

[quickshare]

Agua Caliente, in Spanish, means hot water

Agua Caliente Park Tucson AZAgua Caliente Park Tucson AZ is a unique 100 acre oasis in the desert with perpetual warm springs. The three ponds in this Tucson park are fed by spring water. A stream was created to link the three ponds together and help ensure water flows to each one.

The ponds support diverse wildlife and fish populations. The spring water fluctuates throughout the year due to drought and at times the lower ponds may be dry.

Once an active cattle ranch, a health resort was developed in the 1870’s to promote the curative benefits of the warm springs. The ranch bunkhouse dates back to the 1920’s and was used by the cowboys and ranch hands who worked there.

A gift to the City of Tucson

Aqua Caliente was gifted to the City of Tucson by the Drachman Family in the 1950’s. The original homestead was turned into a  museum shortly after. The old home is creates visions of the lifestyles of a by gone era.

The tall palm trees around and in the park make it visible for miles. Perhaps early travelers used those tall trees in the desert to find their way to fresh water. Today, the tall palms and pleasant surrounding create a tranquil place to wonder and forget your day to day troubles.

For birders, Agua Caliente Tucson should be on your list of top bird watching spots. Woodpeckers, wrens, and finches abound and water fowl swim in the ponds. Agua Caliente is a juxtaposition of a peaceful oasis in the desert.
