Tucson Medical Center was established in 1943 to address a local need for more hospital beds. The hospital has been a locally governed nonprofit regional hospital for more than 65 years.
Since its beginning, Tucson Medical Center has focused on delivering services to improve the health and well-being of people throughout the Tucson area.
TMC is Southern Arizona’s leading provider for emergency and pediatric care. The Tucson Medical Center provides top-notch ICU services for adults, children and newborns. It also provides specialty areas for women’s, maternity, cardiac, orthopedic, neuroscience, imaging and senior services.
It also established Tucson’s first Pediatric Emergency Department. Tucson Medical Center is licensed at more than 600 beds.

– Primary Stroke Center
TMC earned the Gold Plus Achievement Award for stroke programs from the American Heart and American Stroke Associations. Additionally, it provides Bariatric Surgery and is the only Tucson hospital recognized as a top-ranked Community Value Provider by Cleverley + Associates.
Patient Service Programs
To enhance patient care, it introduced a progressive patient food services program. The program is aimed at giving patients greater control over food choices and eating schedules. Patients have on-demand room service that allows them to choose when their meals will be served. Patients choose their meal and service time as they choose during the hours from 6:30 AM to 7:30 PM.
