Casa Grande is in Pinal County, about halfway between Phoenix and Tucson. The population of the city is 55,477 as of 2017.

One of the largest prehistoric structures discovered in North America is nearby. And that structure is the source of the name “Casa Grande”.

In 1694,Spanish missionary Padre Eusebio Francisco Kino visited the ruins. He described the ruins as a “casa grande” or “great house.”

Founded in 1879, Casa Grande incorporated as a city in 1915. The city’s original name was Terminus. Somewhat pragmatic since it was at the end of the railroad line.

But it became Casa Grande and more notable due to its proximity to the nearby ruins.

In 1918, President Woodrow Wilson designated the Casa Grande Ruins a National Monument. Interestingly, the Casa Grande Ruins are in the City Of Coolidge. Go Figure??

Today, Casa Grande is the largest city in Pinal County and home home to an array of thriving industries. The largest being distribution and manufacturing.
