Peoria ArizonaPeoria Arizona is a suburb about 15 miles from downtown Phoenix Arizona. Interestingly, Peoria was named after Peoria Illinois.

In the late 1800’s, a railroad spur line was brought to the town. The rail line helped development and the economy at that time. A depot was built and enabled ranchers and farmers to ship cattle and crops to other towns and cities.

By the early 1900’s the town was taking roots and start to grow, although not very fast.

Once again, World War II was one of the key factors putting Peoria on the map. Luke Air Force base was a training field for many WWII pilots.

After WWII, the growth in town was ignited by technology – air conditioning. The post WWII boom and AC helped the area grow. In 1954, Peoria had a population of just over 1,925 residents. In that same year Peoria Arizona was incorporated.

Today, the population of Peoria Arizona is estimated at over 155,000. As with other suburbs of Phoenix, Major League Baseball spring training is a annual event. Both the San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners hold their spring training in Peoria Arizona.
