Park Place Mall originally opened as Park Mall in the 1970’s. In 1998 the Park Mall underwent a major renovation. After the renovation it was renamed Park Place.
The mall is named after Sears Park, which was previously located at the same site and included the Sears store. Sears remains one of the mall’s major anchor stores. The electric substation at the mall is named Sears Substation. It was named long before the mall was built and the name stuck.
The renovation was completed in 2001 at a cost of over $100 Million. Park Place Mall was recognized as a Reader’s Pick for Best Contemporary Architecture in Tucson Weekly’s Best of Tucson awards.
