The Vail School District was once a ranching community with a one-room schoolhouse. Vail School District was founded 1903. Now, over one hundred years later, the Vail School District continues to serve the community. VSD brings old-fashioned values of hard work and high standards to modern mediums and with up-to-date methods.
Vail School District Boundaries
Vail and the Southeast region of Tucson has grown rapidly. This has made the VSD one of the fastest growing districts in Arizona. Vail School District has seven elementary schools, four middle schools, three high schools. Additionally there are two charter schools. Today over 10,259 students are enrolled in grades K-12.
Vail School District strives to continuously scrutinize what is best for students and families. The Vail School District work to ensure that teachers, parents, and students have the tools they need. Tools that can be used to succeed in the classroom, in the workplace, and in the larger global community.
Vail is named after the Vail Brothers, Edward and Walter. They arrived in the late 1870?s, purchased the Empire Ranch. They quickly became cattle ranchers. They also developed the Total Wreck Mine in the Empire Mountains. As their wealth increased they expanded the Empire Ranch. Ultimately it stretched from the Santa Rita Mountains to the Mexican Border, between the Santa Cruz and San Pedro Rivers.
