Winterhaven homes have lush green lawns in the front and many mature trees boarding the streets. This is principally due to the fact that Winterhaven has its own private water system.

One of the great traditions of the Winterhaven community is its annual festival of lights. The Winterhaven festival of lights was initiated in 1949 by Mr. CB Richards, the developer of Winterhaven and its water company. Mr. Richards had visited Beverly Hills, California during the 1930’s and used that influence to start the annual festival.

The first Winterhaven festival placed the lights on trees purchased from a local nursery. Today, many of the Winterhaven homes are the focal point of the Winterhaven festival of lights. The festival is free to attend, however, a donation of food or money is encouraged.  All donations go to the Community Food Bank in Tucson AZ.
