Rose Canyon Lake is a small lake covering only 7 acres. Rose Canyon Lake is in the Catalina Mountains 29 miles Northeast of Tucson. Follow Catalina Highway to milepost 17 to find the lake.
Rose Canyon Lake is a popular camping area and provides over 70 campsites. Fresh drinking water is available. The elevation here is high at around 7000 feet, so be prepared of chilly mornings and evenings.
Rose Canyon Lake is tucked away in a mature ponderosa pines on the slopes of the Santa Catalina Mountains. A small parking area is a quick walk from the lake.
Fishing is popular throughout the summer. For those interested in rainbow trout, the lake is stocked only during the cooler months. Larger “eating” fish are released in the lake from early May through the end of June. As water temperatures once again cool stocking usually starts in mid-September. Stocking programs and fishing regulations for Rose Canyon lakes are managed by Arizona Game and Fish.
The area is quite scenic as trees and rocky slopes are reflected in the lake’s waters. Trails around Rose Canyon Lake provides opportunities for shutter bugs. Bird watchers also find the area a full of species to watch. There are many opportunities to just sit and relax so bring the picnic basket.
Rose Canyon Lake is stocked with Rainbow trout and the lake is open from April to October.
