Oro Valley Or Scottsdale….What To Know

For people looking to move to Arizona, an early consideration is Scottsdale.  A busheling suburb of Phoenix. It offers an upscale lifestyle with year around activities.

For those considering Scottsdale, take a look at Oro Valley, AZ. Oro Valley and the City of Tucson is 90 miles south of Scottsdale, but worlds apart.

Oro Valley is cooler, casual and less expensive than Scottsdale. Homes are less expensive and so is the cost of living.  For more reasons to consider Oro Valley, AZ and Tucson…….

Gardening Tips

Our January 2021 Tucson Homes Newsletter suggests you tend to your garden and yard …….

Water: Outside plants should get a minimum amount of water. This is their dormant period. Do not water cactus or succulents before frosts.

Typically the evening hours are our coldest period so watch evening temps as you may need to bring in your succulents or cover them with sheets of cloth/burlap.

Also watch for signs of fungus where things may become too wet.

Prune: Prune roses to 18 inches. Dab ends with wood glue to discourage insects.

Wait until April to cut back frost damaged citrus, bougainvillea and lantana. Great time to remove mistletoe from mesquite trees.

Fertilize: Fertilize bearded iris and citrus. For citrus use 1/3 of the total nitrogen requirement. Water deeply.

Harvest: Cool weather is when you harvest citrus. Keep in mind the longer the fruit stays on the tree, you get the reward of sweeter fruit.

A good “Rule of thumb” – tangerines ripen first, then navel oranges, tangelos, lemons, and limes last.
